NAE elected Tso-Ping (T.P.) Ma one of its 77 new members

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has elected 77 new members and nine foreign associates, NAE President Wm. A. Wulf announced February 14. This brings the total U.S. membership to 2,138 and the number of foreign associates to 165. Tso-Ping (T.P.) Ma is one of the 77 members elected for his contributions to the development of CMOS gate dielectric technology.

Dr. Ma is Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Co-Director of the Yale Center for Microelectronic Materials and Structures, Yale University. Research in Prof. Ma's group revolves around the scientific and technological issues related to semiconductor devices, especially those involving MIS (Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor) systems.

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made "important contributions to engineering theory and practice, including significant contributions to the literature of engineering theory and practice," and those who have demonstrated accomplishment in "the pioneering of new fields of engineering, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."
