March over Brooklyn Bridge for Chinese-American youth

Cadman Plaza Park was filled with Asian dance, music and song on Saturday morning as hundreds of Chinese-Americans came together to raise funds for youth programs in Brooklyn and across the city. Because of drastic budget cuts, the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) dedicated this year's fundraising effort - a Brooklyn Bridge walkathon and cultural celebration - to youth as the leaders of tomorrow," said Weijing Shi, director of CPC's Brooklyn branch.

The money raised Saturday will be distributed to all branches of the CPC, Shi said, but her personal goal is to raise $20,000 for the Brooklyn branches.

Colorful entertainment was provided by I.S. 220, which put on demonstrations of Chinese traditional dance; P.S. 153, with a show of Pakistani dance; and singers from the Brooklyn senior program and other CPC clients. (Source: Mary Frost, Brooklyneagle.com, Aug 2, 2010).
