Dr. Ben-chieh Liu, born on November 17, 1938 in Chngking, China, left from Taiwan to Canada in 1963, and came to the United States in 1965. He received B.A. from National Taiwan University, M.A. from the Memorial University - Canada, and M.A. and Ph.D. from Washington University, St. Louis in 1968 and 1971 respectively. His doctoral thesis is an econometric study of regional growth and local government finance.
He is Distinguished Professor of Business Economics and Management at Chicago State University, 1982, and served as Commissioner of the U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Services, 1991-94, visiting professor at National Taiwan University, 1991-92, Fulbright Professor at Management Development Institute (Gurgaon) and Delhi University, 1992, Fulbright Professor and Director, Institute of International Business, National Dong-Hwa University, 1996-98, and Dean and Professor of International Business at College of Business, Chung-Yuan Christian University, 2000-01.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Liu also served as Project Manager at Argonne National Laboratory, principal Economist at Midwest Research Institute, consultant to the United Nations and the National Science Foundation and is currently President of Liu and Associates, Inc. In professional community, he has been actively involved in academic organizations, serving as president, Chinese Academic and Professional Association 1984-85, president of Chinese Economic Association in North America, 1988-90, and founding president of the Chinese American Professors Association, 1997- .
Dr. Liu is an expert on applied economics and statistical research in energy, environmental, human resources management and, QOL studies. A prolific writer, he has published five books and over hundred articles. His latest book is Energy, Income & the quality of Life Management in U.S.A.: An Information System Approach to Decision Analysis, published by Tam Kang University Press in Taipei in 1988. Dr. Liu is on the editorial board of a number of journals, including American Journal of Economics and Sociology, 1979- , Math Social Science Journal, 1980-95, H.K.J. Business Management, 1984-87, International Journal of Business, 1`996- , and International Journal of Management: Theory and Practices, 1999- . Dr. Liu is married to Jill Jyh-huey Chen.
