Dr. Yang and Dr. Tsung Dao Lee worked on a project involved in the principle of conservation of parity experimented by Dr. Chien-shiung Wu and others proved that the principle violated in the weak nuclear reactions, those nuclear processes that result in the emission of beta or alpha particles. For this discovery, Drs. Yang and Lee were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1957.
He was awarded a number of honorary degrees: DSc, Princeton University (1958), Dsc, Broklyn Institute of Polytechnology (1958), Dsc, University of Wroclaw, Poland (1974), DSc), Gustavus Adolphus College (1975), DSc, University of Maryland (1979 ), DSc, University of Durham, England (1979), Dsc, Fudan University, China (1984), DSc, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland (1987), DSc, Moscow State University (1992), and DSc, Drexel University (1995).
